Experimental work
Research and experimental work support Apetit’s open-field vegetable cultivation and take into account adaptation to climate change. Field trials are conducted at Apetit’s own Räpi experimental farm in Köyliö as well as in cooperation with contract growers. In addition, Apetit engages in extensive collaboration with research organisations and institutes.
At the core of the activities at the Räpi experimental farm is the development of the Apetit farming method as well as varietal trials. Research and development work at the Räpi farm focuses on improving cultivation practices, identifying alternatives to chemical plant protection products, and finding ways to enhance soil health and water management. The development of cultivation practices and varietal trials also play a significant role in managing risks caused by climate change.
At Räpi experimental farm in Köyliö, Säkylä, long-term research and development work has been carried out to develop Finnish open-field vegetable cultivation for 70 years. Results and experiences from the fields of Apetit’s contract growers are also actively utilised in developing the Apetit farming method. Through our own field trial activities, we identify the best-tasting varieties suited to Finnish open-field cultivation, with characteristics that meet the requirements of frozen food production.
